Fast Food – Statistics Are Grim
Fast foods are any foods that are processed, out of the package ready to eat meals or snacks. Typically we relate fast foods as cheese burgers and fries, however these foods can be found in convenient stores, on the shelves and in the frozen food departments of grocers as well. If it is in a processed form and can be plopped into the microwave for heating, than it is still a fast food. Unfortunately, fast foods contains large amounts of sodium, saturated fats, corn syrup, high calories, and other unidentifiable ingredients.
With all of that, these fast foods taste good! Why do they taste good? In nature, humans always had to hunt for their foods which took a lot of energy. Our brains are built to use as less energy as possible in order to save it for the actions of gathering nutritious meats and vegetables. With fast foods, since our brains are trained to save energy, the human mind gets great satisfaction from eating foods that take no energy to collect. As well, we are naturally attracted to salts and sugars. Therefore fast foods taste good on an evolutionary basis, and because of the high salt and sugar content.
Why are fast foods so bad? This is a no brainer. Even though in the past humans naturally gathered the fattiest most nutritious foods, fast foods today have none of those values. They are processed and virtually unidentifiable, and in most fast foods ingredients are disclosed as "and other ingredients". These foods are cooked in oils that are not processed in nature, wrapped in plastics, full of genetically modified corn and soy fillers, and come at a huge environmental cost. This is not the only reason fast foods are so bad. Here are some grim statistics that shows other reason.
• One in every four Americans will east fast food today.
• An average person will consume 12 pubic hairs in their fast food annually
• More than 50 million people in the Unites States depend on fast foods
• 110 billions dollars per year is spent in America on fast foods
• McDonald's Happy Meal has 23 grams of fat and over 500 calories
• White Castle Chocolate shake has 1600 calories
• Even though Ronald McDonald is not as popular, nearly all fast food commercials are aimed at children.
• A chicken nugget is little as 16 percent pulped chicken skin, bones, and other mechanically separated parts that is then bulked out with water.
