Eggs – Are They Really Bad For You?
Eggs have had a horrible reputation in the past decade mainly because of their high cholesterol content. Cholesterol is said to clog the arteries and is bad for the heart, and since eggs are high in cholesterol, cholesterol sensitive consumers panicked and the egg industry was affected negatively. How is it that all of a sudden, since the beginning of time that eggs are now bad for human health? New studies say that they are not bad for the health at all. Ill reporting and misrepresentation of research is responsible for the bad reputation of eggs. The bad rap made for egg producers to take leaps in marketing by making claims that their eggs are better than others. Claiming they are lower in fat and cholesterol is indeed a myth. All eggs, no matter the manufacturer, have the same healthy benefits. No one is better or worse than the other.
Eggs are a healthy supplement. They are packed full of protein, come in their own little package, and can be eaten and stored in a plethora of ways. Best of all, they are very inexpensive. Eggs are in everything. They bind foods together, make for delectable sauces, and are an essential ingredient in a variety of prepared foods. As well, they are delicious! Heart conscious people tend to eat only the whites of an egg. The whites do not have near the nutritional values as the yolk. The yolk is where all of the fats, protein, and cholesterol are stored. Eliminating the yolk eliminates all but a fraction of these nutritional elements. The whites do pack a big punch of protein, however the fat in eggs is just as important to a healthy diet.
Onto the flavor of eggs. Indeed eggs do have different tastes. Some egg marketers do advertise that their eggs are richer in flavor and have a better taste over all. This may be true, however the true taste of an egg will never come out of a hen house where hens are factory farmed. That is because chickens raised outdoors in a pasture eat bugs, lizards, grasses, and what ever they can cram into their beaks. Factory farmed hens are typically fed a corn based diet, even organically raised chickens, and a chickens diet makes all the difference in the taste, color, and texture of the eggs they produce. This is evident with the saying "there's nothing like a fresh farm raised egg".
